Brainstorm Brewery #167 – Four Amigos

Hypothetically, say a member of the podcast wasn’t on the episode. Say he said “Literally the only time Tuesday I can’t record is between 9 PM and 11 PM, so if you record literally any time other than that two hour window, I can do it.” and then the group recorded the podcast without him. Say another member of the podcast did one of the worst impressions imaginable of that person. Would it or would it not be the douchiest move ever to expect that person to make the show notes and upload the episode he could easily have been a part of if the group had made the smallest possible concession and avoided the 2 hours in a 24 hour period he was busy? Is it weird that this isn’t new, but that person had something going on at that exact time nearly every night for the last year and all of a sudden it’s a conflict now?

You probably want to know what happened on the episode. I don’t know. I wasn’t there.

This IS Wizards failure. Their earnings report reveal that Magic just underperformed, and this isn’t going to help. They could have done any of the following to prevent this. It’s a debacle when players are faced with $450-700 to be competitive in Standard, whether or not the cards have long term value. People are going to sit out, and below, I have some ideas for what should have been done to prevent this insane outcome.

    1. Don’t print battle lands that enable four and five color decks while you have fetchlands AND insanely powerful shard cards.
    2. Print cards in Origins / Dragons / FRF / BFZ that cost two or three mana of one color that make it WORTH playing a two color deck. Reward the decision to not play four colors.
    3. Print powerful nonland cards and also removal in BFZ that ALSO work well with the cards that were already available, as opposed to one planeswalker and a few lands.
