Behind The Mic

Corbin Hosler

A former sports reporter at the Norman Transcript and current MTG enthusiast from the Magic hotbed that is Oklahoma, Corbin produces the “Mining Modern” and “Punting Pioneer” series on CoolstuffInc. His long list of writing and editor credits includes Quietspeculation, MTGPrice, Channelfireball and TCGPlayer. Corbin is on the bleeding edge of esports journalism and he could very well teach a course on the subject in the years to come. If you’re looking for a level-headed take on the world of Magic finance or want to know who to blame the Ice Age on (both the Magic set and the actual Pleistocene epoch), then look no further.

Jason E Alt

Jason is a financier living in Michigan. You can find his work on CoolstuffInc. and MTGPrice. Jason is also the acting manager of EDHREC. Jason brings nearly a decade of Magic finance experience to the podcast, as well as his signature wit and comic relief. Jason is a disgruntled former member of Team Simic. Jason joined the podcast as a guest on Episodes 10 and 12; It was clear that the group had a great dynamic. He became a permanent member of the cast soon after and the world of Magic finance hasn’t been the same since. If you’d like a sugary-coating to the sometimes bitter pill that is the secondary market, he’s not your guy. But if you want to laugh while you choke down your acrid medicine, you’re in luck.

Douglas Johnson

Douglas “DJ” Johnson buys and sells Magic cards, full time. He got into the finance part of the game in 2009 to afford Standard, and became the local vendor over the course of a few years. His writing credits include Brainstormbrewery.com, MTGPrice, Quietspeculation and TCGplayer. Currently he owns and operates his store CardGarden out of Upstate NY, and works for 95MTG on the MagicFest circuit. If you want to know which tokens and basics to pull out of bulk, or if you haven’t felt old in a while and want to hear from someone who doesn’t remember the Sega Genesis, DJ’s got you covered.

Podcast Hosts Emetrius

Ryan Bushard

One of the pioneers of Magic finance content, Ryan was writing for Quietspeculation before it was cool. Contributing later to Coolstuffinc (Gatheringmagic at the time), Ryan was backpack grinding before many of us were aware that cards were worth money. Ryan brought over a decade of experience to the podcast, and pioneered the “token for breaking bulk” and “entire set for pick of the week” techniques still employed on the cast today. Ryan owns and operates an LGS in rural Michigan and can beat half of the guys at his LGS in a 50 yard dash.

      Hey Brew Crew,

Also Hi DJ. DJ was correct. 95 had the best prices at GP Reno or whatever it’s called. They also directed me to other dealers that would buy specific cards. Thanks.

I’m a week behind, but I wanted to say I’ve been listening for a while. I remember episode 100. I started listening after GP Oakland during RTR block. This dude was handing out elemental tokens for Voice of Resurgence. So I started listening. I thought it was Jason that I met, but soon discovered that Marcel is white, and so it was actually him.

Also, I am the person responsible for all of the fake Corbin accounts. All of them. I believe Jason said to troll Corbin on Twitter and so I did. I took it too far. I was watching football and that is how I spent the commercial breaks. It was not a bot.

I was having too much fun using the hashtag #wildwinged to realize that I was impacting someone’s life in a negative way. It is easy to forget that there is another person on the other side of the screen. I learned a lot about online bullying sand have felt guilty about it ever since. I’m sorry for doing that to you.

Anyway, I’m a big fan and appreciate all that you do. You are my second favorite podcast behind Money Draught and I look forward to listening to you on my drive to work each week. Yes really.

      Thanks for everything,
      Zach
