Brainstorm Brewery #63 – Down a Man

With a title that could be construed as a football pun, the gang is back better than ever to talk about a week that actually had relevant things happen for finance. The cast you know and love is back to full form with an episode so jimmy-jammed with bonus content you’ll need to open up a second bank account just to hold all the value.

What can a relatively nondiverse World Championship meta tell us about finance? Which card is such a good Pick of the Week that it is double-teamed? Who manages to turn his What’s It Worth? into a Pick of the Week without even trying? Who thinks “Timmy” refers to players who take Friday Night Magic a little too seriously? Which cast member is only present to open the show before ducking out? Why won’t Jason stop riffling tokens in his microphone? Find out the answer to all these questions and more, including where you can buy a sweet Brainstorm Brewery play mat when your favorite finance podcast returns with a vengeance. Join us for all of the value and none of the cost on Brainstorm Brewery.

  • The Magic World Championship metagame was a little dull. What was the breakout tech that has Ryan and Jason seeing dollar signs?
  • It’s a smooth segue right into Pick of the Week, and it’s so chock-full of value it threatens to run the length of the entire cast.
  • Speaking of What’s It Worth?, what’s a From the Vault: Twenty worth, and what should we pay? Keep it sealed or bust it? What’s this going to do to the value of Jace, the Mind Sculptor? What other hidden gems are in here that people are too busy ignoring because they aren’t Jace? The cast goes deep on FTV talk, and it’s all stuff you can?t miss.
  • The wait is over: The Brainstorm Brewery tokens are here at last! Find out how to get your own today!
  • This may be the last cast before Gen Con, the gang would be remiss if they didn’t bring it up. If you can physically make it this year, don’t miss it or there won’t be enough years in the rest of your life to regret it completely.
  • What’s It Worth? happens, but not without a few The Hobbit references peppered in. Corbin turns it into a full learning experience, don’t miss a single second.
  • Don’t you just love it when the gang is recording when they don?t think the mics are on? Stay tuned at the end for some bonus content that we know you’ll enjoy.

Brainstorm Brewery #62 – See Sprankle Cast

Marshall Sutcliffe is a tough act to follow, but this week’s special guest is up to the challenge; it’s cosplay legend Christine Sprankle (@cspranklerun)! Have you ever wondered what she deals with traveling to events with two suitcases so jammed full of cosplay gear there is barely room for a deckbox and a toothbrush on top? Here’s your chance to find out as Christine talks about her GP Vegas experience, negative community response, her first foray into Magic cosplay and the upcoming Theros block. Who keeps unintentionally trying to get Christine in trouble with WoTC by asking questions she can’t answer? Christine teaches someone a new adjective – who loves it and who ruins it for everyone? Someone has to duck out early- can you catch when it happens? Find out the answer to all these questions, plus find out the card that got Christine into Magic cosplay in the first place on an episode of your favorite podcast that will have you asking “Can Christine be on here every week?” this is Brainstorm Brewery.

  • Don’t know who Christine Sprankle is? I don’t believe you. Jason profiled her earlier this year, so check it out here if you haven’t already.
  • So what was GP Vegas like for Christine? Find out about her appearance on Walking The Planes and her many costume changes.
  • The usual gang’s opinion of the upcoming Theros block is a matter of record; how does Christine feel about it? Will this be another Kamigawa block, and will that be a good or bad thing if it is?
  • There was some drama this week as a player in a PTQ jammed two fewer Elvish Archdruids than Jason would run ideally, but still two more than he was allowed. Find out what happened and whether anyone is satisfied with the outcome.
  • Even more drama as Pro Todd Anderson is antagonized by an attendee at an SCG event. Is a lifetime ban too severe for this infraction? Was a lifetime ban even issued? The gang sets the record straight and weighs in on the use of bans to keep the community a safe and fun place for everyone.
  • Jason and Marcel talk a little bit of finance with Christine- are some of the M14 cards that are good right now just being buoyed by cards that are about to rotate or are they here to stay? It was a slow week for finance but that doesn’t mean there isn’t financial opportunity.

Brainstorm Brewery #61 – Limited Finances

Somehow the gang manages to talk Marshall Sutcliffe of Limited Resources into appearing on an episode! Along with a lot of leant credibility comes insightful questions about finance that everyone has asked at some point as well as a thorough run-down of how to avoid the “slow bleed” of trying to go infinite on MODO limited. This episode has something for everyone and you won’t want to miss it. Does Wizards owe the player base anything? How will a few events in the community shake things up moving forward? Who did we say goodbye to this week? Can Marshall stump the gang when it comes time for “What’s it worth?” What is a “spread” anyway? How do you decide if a trade is truly in your favor? Find out the answer to all these questions and more on a bonus-sized episode that will make you forget the gang ever missed a cast. Join us for another scintillating episode of your favorite podcast that will have you asking “Those Comic Con Planeswalkers are worth HOW MUCH?”, the number one finance podcast by default, Brainstorm Brewery.

  • San Diego Comic Con has come and gone, and also gone are the exclusive black on black planeswalkers? Did you get a chance to buy these at $65? Didn’t think so! Find out the gang’s opinions on Marshall’s contention that printings like this are rubbing the player base the wrong way.
  • “What’s it Worth?” is heavily-informed by the SCG events this weekend. What do we see going up soon? Does the price that dealers are willing to pay influence whether to buy in with cash or pick up cards in trade? What is a “spread” anyway? Find out, suckas!
  • What?s the play when it comes to MODO drafting? Marshall talks at length about the “slow bleed” and how to maximize your winnings to ensure you spend less to play online- a lesson that has implications in finance at large.
  • Marshall proposes a trade he’s on the fence about- hear how the gang can’t agree whether it’s a snap trade and see how their individual ins and outs influence their answers. There’s no right answer when it comes to a trade that’s close in value; see whose situation lines up with yours and decide what you would do in a trade analysis that just might become a regular segment.
  • What’s it Worth happens- kind of; see what I mean by that by tuning in.
  • Are you a big fan but feel like you’ve got no one local to bond with over this excellent cast? Find out how to join the Brew Crew Modo clan or the Google+ group. Be a founding member of the fan community and be able to tell future fans you were there at the Brew Crew’s inception!

Brainstorm Brewery #60 – M14 is the Best Ever…

Can the cast even understand its own grading metric? How confusing is it to give an E- normally? failing grade- to cards they like? Can the absurdity and the hyperbole give way to a real discussion about M14 or will this turn into every review of every core set- a struggle to find constructive things to say about a set that is ultimately fun to draft but won’t impact constructed all that much? Find out a few hidden gems, a few casual hits and a few cards that are seeing reprints that will devastate the price as the gang is joined by Midwest grinder Raymond Perez on the back of his big PTQ win on a set review episode you won’t soon forget. Join us on the 60th installment of your favorite podcast that will have you asking “Who does that flawless imitation of Marcel?”- your source for finance and brewing information- Brainstorm Brewery.

  • It’s M14 action wall to wall as the gang discusses the recently-spoiled M14
  • The gang utilizes their grading metric- changed from a number to a letter grade based on your feedback (it gets confusing when they mention numerical grades and numerical prices) to assess the rares, mythics and a few choice uncommon in M14.
  • Someone initiates an impromptu game of “What’s it Worth?” out of nowhere. Will the gang be ready for this shot from the hip?
  • Raymond Perez, AKA @rayfuturepro , the newest member of the Brainstorm Brewery #BrewCrew MODO clan and BSB representative on the Pro Tour gives a player’s perspective that may change how the gang feels about preordering certain cards.
  • No time for “Pick of the Week” as all cards worth mentioning are picks and the set review starts to feel like it took a week.
  • Who wins the award for “most out of touch with reality” price ceiling for a card? I’ll give you a hint- it’s exactly who you think it was, the ceiling proposed is $15, and the card is not what you’d expect.
  • Brainstorm Brewery turns 60 this week! Stay tuned to www.brainstormbrewery.com for exciting announcements regarding a forums and future merch you can buy and show your brew crew pride!

Brainstorm Brewery #59 – The Proverbial Shoe

Which one of the cast invents their own brand new Proverb? Is there a new Fogo De Chao bet in the making? Which tribe is the best tribe? Which M14 cards, if any, should we be preordering? How are Magic cards like Harry Potter tote bags? How can you, a loyal listener, be part of the “Brew Crew”, an elite group of super listeners who will be the envy of their peers? Find out the answer to all these questions and more as well as which card in M14 is most likely to be altered by RK Post in an episode of your favorite podcast that will have you asking “Wow, do these guys actually even like each other?”- join us for a proverbial episode of Brainstorm Brewery.

  • The cast is back to its usual format- no more Meavy Meta for the foreseeable future, just pure, unadulterated MTG Finance is coming your way.
  • Exciting things are coming for members of the newly-formed Brew Crew. Find out how you can become a charter member.
  • The playmats designed by @Mattystudios are completely sold, but worry not. There will be another print run.
  • Find out how to get ahold of the awesome Stag tokens designed by @PolishTamales while you?re at it! You won?t want to miss the chance to intimidate your opponents with this angry Elemental from hell!
  • “Pick of the week” goes down the rabbit hole and turns into way more than just four picks- that’s what we in this business like to call “value”.
  • Can we ever hope to capture the Magic of GP Las Vegas? Opinions are mixed about whether Gen Con will completely underwhelm in the wake of that magical weekend.
  • Someone’s happy that there’s a new, playable Merfolk printed. I’ll give you four guesses who it is. Bonus points for saying “Duh, Corbin” four times.
  • Could Slivers finally supplant Merfolk and Goblins as the tribal King of Legacy? If it were going to, why hasn’t it already? Opinions are mixed.
  • M14 has a lot of goodness about to come your way, and none of it was spoiled until now because Modern Masters stole its thunder. Is it finally time to get excited about a core set?

Brainstorm Brewery #58 – Meavy Meta

Who did the best at the event out of everyone at the house? Which Magic-famous guests crashed the party? There were a few more gourmet chefs at the event: Who almost dropped because they had their meat on their mind, and who became an honorary Hood Chef? Who is going to think twice before taking a cab to the venue in the future? Who came so close to winning the Booze Cube invitational he could almost taste it? How tall is Derfington in real life? Find out the answers to all these questions and more on a very special joint podcast that will leave you asking “Why didn’t I go to Vegas?” It’s a Brainstorm Brewery and Heavy Meta joint podcast extravaganza. This is Meavy Meta.
  • It’s total bedlam as Brainstorm Brewery and Heavy Meta join forces to recap the largest card gaming event in the history of ever.
  • The infamous “podcast house” made quite a splash, even being covered by the Mothership. That article gave this glorious cast its name, but didn’t get the whole story. Find out the inside details here.
  • How did everyone make it to the event? Hear it here first!
  • There was quite a bit of liquid refreshment at the house- find out who couldn’t handle it and had to drop from the event prematurely.
  • The gang have been called “non-players” unfairly just because they’re finance geniuses, but can they still throw down at a major event? Find out how everyone fared. The answer may shock you.
  • What lessons can we take forward to help us when we attend the next record-breaking Grand Prix? This may not be the gang to ask.
  • A lot of inside jokes are explained, hilarious anecdotes are retold, friendships are formed and if you have a Booze Cube at home, you might want to get it laminated.
  • Ryan and Corbin provide some Brainstorm Brewery-exclusive content for Gathering Magic listeners only. You won’t want to miss it and you can’t find it anywhere else.

Brainstorm Brewery #57 – GP Vegas Baby!

Is GP Vegas really going to be the can’t-miss event of the year? How do we get ahold of some of the sweet Brainstorm Brewery tokens and playmats by Polish Tamales and Matty Studios? What is this “Vegas House” we hear so much about? How will the gang react to be called “non-players”? Who goes 3 for 3 in “Guessing with the Godslayer”? Is Oklahoma actually the hotbed of Magic: the Gathering Corbin referred to? Find out the answer to all these questions, plus find out the answers to questions you never even asked on an episode of your favorite podcast that will have you asking “Is it a good thing or bad thing if you taste buds get curb-stomped”? Join us for another episode of Brainstorm Brewery.

-When the gang isn’t putting Brazilian steakhouse where its mouth is, it’s putting money there. Who won and lost some epic bets and who’s buying who dinner? You’ll have to listen to find out.

-With attendance for the GP already over 3,000, the prize structure is still the same as it would be for an 800 person GP. What can be done, and can the GP as a format survive?

-Speaking of Grand Prix, one of the gang had a good weekend at GP Houston. Not bad at all!

-There have been some accusations leveled at cast members by another podcast. Hear the record set straight.

-What is speculation? The gang can’t even agree on what it is; can they agree on how to do it? Listen to some invaluable tips on the why, the what and the how that will help new and old financiers alike. This is a segment you won’t want to miss.

-The cast is joined by Aaron “the Godslayer” Sulla for another episode of “Guessing with the Godslayer”, now with 100% more guessing.

Brainstorm Brewery #56 – I Have ESPN

So which one of the gang is a psychic? Who sounds like they’re calling in on a satellite phone from another continent (the answer may not surprise you)? Which regular is mysteriously missing tonight? How much value can we accidentally give you, anyway? There are a few cards poised to go up and you have a very short window to take advantage- find out which ones while there is still time. You’ll find anecdotes, actual deck brewing, deck advice and a whole lot of Legacy talk on a jam-packed episode of your favorite MTG Finance podcast that will leave you asking “how did you manage to go so long without telling Corbin to shut up”? Join us for Brainstorm Brewery.

  • The usual gang of idiots- Jason, Ryan and Corbin, are joined by Midwest grinder Chris Andersen (@_chrandersen_) to talk finance, M14 and Chris? success last weekend at the St Louis SCG Open where he took down the Legacy event with U/B Tezzerator
  • How do you play Tezzerator? What are the key cards? Are any of them poised to go up in price? There is speculation aplenty, and they finally put to rest the burning question ? should we be buying Tezzeret?
  • The podcast was recorded 30 minutes before the M14 spoiler was updated and one of the podcast members nails an unconventional pick. The whole cast agrees the reprint isn’t all that likely, but luckily for you they discuss what to do if it does make the cut. Sometimes when you run hot, you even run hot by accident
  • “Pick of the week” goes very deep and triggers a lot of discussion. You won?t want to miss a second.
  • “What’s it Worth” is full of surprises. Can the guest trip up the gang? What card has a surprisingly large price disparity between two popular websites? You’ll have to listen to find out.
  • Chris has been busy lately- when he’s not winning Opens he’s writing a new article for Star City Games? new column about Legacy decks and joining the podcast Glory Seekers. Check out his article today on Star City.
  • As long as you’re checking things out, remember there are several ways to find our podcast- both on Brainstorm Brewery.com and GatheringMagic.com. Make sure you know where to look so you don’t miss a single episode.

Brainstorm Brewery #55 – The Talent

We have a shuffling of roles here on the cast. Who’s the new announcer? Who?s the new king of bad segues? Who gets told to shut up? Who is the talent? Who gives the most relevant MODO information?? Who gets the biggest laugh? The answer to all of these is not who you’d think based on past weeks, and that’s how we like it. Tune in for another great episode of your favorite podcast that will keep you guessing and have you asking “Does Ryan even know what the word talent means?” and “Can Corbin spell talent?” Join us for the best Brainstorm Brewery yet.

  • Ryan opens his mouth before the cast starts and trolls Corbin about who the talent on the cast is. This leads to Ryan having to do the intro instead of Marcel. You can tell right away we’re headed for a few derails.
  • Corbin tries to smoothly segue into Pick of the Week and it does not go as smoothly as he’d hoped. Don’t let the clowning fool you- these are some of the most solid picks we’ve seen in a while.
  • Jason repped the Brew Crew this week with a special appearance on the Heavy Meta podcast. Check out the whole episode here. Heavy Meta is a great cast and you should be listening to them.
  • Jason finds a few cards to like in M14 before he’s shut down. Consensus is: people might care about M14 if Modern Masters wasn’t also coming out.
  • Modern Masters has some obvious value, but there is a lot of hidden value the gang teases out. A lot of things you might not have considered are coming with this set and the gang makes sure you don’t miss a thing.
  • The Tee Spring campaign ends this week. Did the gang make their sales goal and get the designs they wanted printed? I’ll give you a hint- no, they did not. 20 shirts seemed like such a reasonable goal, too. There’s just no pleasing Brewery listeners.
  • One of the designs may get enough orders to be printed, and a free one is going out to Brewery listener AJ (@darkajo on twitter). Congrats, AJ! Rep that sexy logo with pride. Just because your shirt doesn’t say “Shut up, Corbin” that doesn’t mean your twitter feed can?t.
  • It’s a very special What’s it Worth as the gang finds a lot of bargains on in-stock cards on Coolstuff.

Brainstorm Brewery #54 – TSG Asking Questions

Does the spoiling of Ratchet Bomb mean it’s a good idea to run out and buy? Was the gang too hard on a certain online retailer last week? Will Jason learn his lesson about letting Marcel go before him on pick of the week? Have we finally found the subject matter that makes Ryan talk more than he has in any other three casts combined? Why was Corbin almost late in joining the group? Find out all this and more on a legitimately special episode of your favorite podcast that will have you asking “Who exactly is buying all the Strip Mines?” Join us for a double dose of Brainstorm Brewery.

  • Marcel says every episode is a special one, but this is literally special- the usual gang of miscreants is joined by MTG Finance Legend Tristan Shaun Gregson!
  • It wouldn’t be a “pick of the week: segment if someone didn’t get sniped. Find out who has to come up with a new one on the fly, and hear what TSG’s surprise pick will be.
  • What effect will block have on prices? Will the block PT results be a harbinger of metagames to come or should we proceed with caution? The gang weighs in.
  • TSG has been listening to Brainstorm Brewery and he’s been taking notes! We have a special live mailbag segment where TSG brings a veritable Santa’s sack full of Q&A. What burning questions have kept him awake at night? Will the gang’s answers satisfy? Toot your own horn? Not on his watch!
  • After nearly a year of relative silence, TSG finally reveals a bit more about the events that lead to his parting ways with Channel Fireball. Cleared of wrongdoing by the authorities, he opens up about support from the community and how he has moved on.
  • The cast goes extra long as the discussion gets too interesting for us to bear to cut a single minute. “What’s it worth?” gets thrown right under the bus as you get a double dose of the brew for the same low low price.
  • M14 mythics were spoiled this week. Hear the gang weigh in on whether this core set will be one to remember.

Brainstorm Brewery #53 – Modern Day Masters

Has the gang finally figured out what the fans want to hear? How does the “Leave X percent for the next guy” principal apply to bad beat stories? Who did we get in trouble with his girlfriend, and who did we get in trouble with his fiance? Did Jason just invent a new booze cube card on the fly? Will Ryan ever cope with staying up past his bedtime? Why was Corbin not more upfront earlier with his Canadian heritage, eh? Marcel is the heavy favorite in the BBQ competition, but Jason’s favorite Legacy deck is Maverick- can that rogue attitude make him a wild card? Anything can happen in Vegas, but will it stay in Vegas since they’re live streaming? Find out the answers to all these questions on another Scavenged episode of your favorite podcast, oozing with solid info- Brainstorm Brewery.

  • Modern Masters boxes keep going up and up in price for preorders. Is this racketeering or are players not taking advantage of the buying opportunities they have on the open market?
  • It’s a jam-packed “Pick of the Week” segment with two hosts picking the same card and squaring off with opposite advice! Who’s right? Who’s wrong? Who owes who dinner at Fogo De Chao? Will Jason break the tie or will everyone admit we can’t say quite yet? You won’t want to miss the most hotly-debated spoiled card from M14.
  • If you can’t go, you might not want to hear about it, but everyone is excited for GP Las Vegas. Corbin Ryan and Jason are hitting the road, shop crawling the whole way there. Ryan Jason and Marcel plan to square off in a BBQ free for all. There will be brews, booze cube and no one is going to get any sleep. Be there or contain 4 right angles and sides of equal length.
  • It takes a big man to admit when he’s wrong. A listener e-mail inspires a bout of rare total honesty from the gang as they discuss bad specs, bad beats, bad feels and their respective boxes of shame. Find out the lessons we can all learn from their mistakes, and triumphs.
  • It’s been a while, but the gang makes time to go into “What’s it Worth?” and it’s a special foily edition. They’ve gotten good at trying to trick each other, so this could get pretty interesting. Who nails one to the penny? The answer may not surprise you.
  • This week’s unofficial outro is one you won’t want to miss. You’re going to get an inside peek into what happens when 4 strangers stop being polite and start getting real. Is that too obscure a reference? Now I feel old.
  • Buy our merch! The Teespring campaign is still going strong and there are a few short weeks left to make sure you’re getting the first print run of Brainstorm Brewery T-shirts. Pick your favorite design(s) and find out what will happen if we see you wearing one out in public.

Brainstorm Brewery #52 – Buy Our T-Shirts

Whose constant abuse has led to the podcast’s first unofficial official catchphrase? (Here’s a hint; it’s totally Corbin, and the catchphrase may or may not include telling him to shut up). Does Jason finally have a deck he’ll like playing in Legacy more than Maverick? Is Deadbridge Chant the next Seance or the next big thing? Marcel promises to make Jason’s life miserable in Vegas- what nefarious machinations does he have up his sleeve? Does a machination fit comfortably in a sleeve anyway? Has Ryan finally gone off the deep end and advocated running Sphinx’s Revelation in a deck with Deadbridge Chant? Find out all this and more on another episode of your favorite MTG Finance podcast that answers the question “Is the MTGFinance subreddit aware that it’s good reddiquette to tell Corbin to shut up?” Join us for another jimmy jampacked episode of Brainstorm Brewery.

  • We start off the cast strong with a brew from Ryan. Can we live the dream of a deck from Ryan that doesn’t include a durdly enchantment as the lynch-pin of the deck (Seance, Guild Feud ring a bell?) Don’t bet on it.
  • Ryan’s silly deck has the gang reluctantly talking about their picks of the week. They all seem a little reluctant. Is the meta going to continue to do ridiculous things to card prices? A lot of the advice seems to be “hold” which is a new concept for this segment.
  • Brainstorm Brewery is coming at you with the merch you’ve been clamoring for! With several designs to choose from, you can show your support for the #1 MTG Finance podcast by sporting one of the T-shirt designs. Visit our website for info on the shirts.
  • M12 brought back Scrye, M13 brought back Exalted- what manner of retro goodness does M14 have in store?! You probably already know! But act surprised when we tell you!
  • Starting with Dragon’s Maze there will be only one event deck released for each new set. Does this new one have all of the value or will stores probably sell it for its intended retail price?
  • The gang can’t quite seem to agree on whether the Modern Masters card included in a guild runner pack was a plant or not. Whose side are you on? Free tin foil hats to anyone who claims the card was planted.
  • Fed up with the high price of flying, Jason and Ryan have decided to road trip from Michigan to Vegas, picking up Corbin along the way on what promises to be the most epic shop crawl to date. With promises of live updates from the road, and podcast bonus material, you won’t want to miss a single second of the preamble to the best GP in history.

Brainstorm Brewery #51 – Mailbag Mayhem

What’s the best way to out bulk rares? Where should you sell cards, eBay or buylists? Is there any speculation opportunity in commons and uncommon? What do you do if you can’t buy at buylist? Is there any hope for Merfolk in Theros? How many times is Corbin going to go on a rambling tangent? How many times is Jason going to try and cut Corbin’s rambling tangents short? Is there time to teach Ryan to read? Will Marcel’s work schedule change soon so he doesn’t doze off mid-cast again? Find out the answer to this and many more questions on a mailtastic episode of the best MTG Finance podcast on the web, Brainstorm Brewery.

  • It’s mailbag madness as the cast decides to use an off week to catch up on listener submissions. Keep them coming!
  • Wanting to save time and make sure every e-mail there is time for is addressed, the gang conspires to keep the “What’s it Worth?” segment short and spend five minutes very aggressively agreeing with each other. Which card has them all seeing dollar signs?
  • There’s time for little else as the gang digs in to a big batch of e-mails. What are the gang’s tips for listeners who want to send an e-mail and maximize the chance that it will get read on the cast? The gang provides a little guidance.
  • Not everyone is a fan of all of the dynamics on the cast. One listener wants more MODO content and he isn’t afraid to let the gang know it!
  • A big shout out to Matty Studios is in order for this awesome design! Check this space in the future to see where you can buy this image on a playmat!

Brainstorm Brewery #50 – A-Maze-ing Spoilers

Which cards are the gang unable to agree on? Are there any 5s in the set? What should you target this weekend at the prerelease? Where in the world did Jason get the numbers he was using the first half of the cast? Will Corbin get a word in edgewise? Where does Marcel run off to at the end? How much does Boros Reckoner cost (mana-wise)? Find out all this and more in a special episode and a half that celebrates 50 solid episodes and gets you ready to go get all the value this pre-release weekend.

  • Is this actually a milestone? Has any member of the cast made all 50 episodes so far?
  • The gang read your letters and decided to roll out a new format for spoilers; a 1-5 rating. 1 for a bulk rare or overpriced card, 5 for underpriced cards bound to go up in value. Will this be more instructive than “bulk or not?”
  • Even with a small number of rares, it’s wall to wall spoilers for a solid 90 minutes. Don’t miss this jam packed episode.
  • The gang managed to get ahold of the Simic Guild Letter from the guild pack. It sounds kind of familiar.

Brainstorm Brewery #49 – Deep in the Dragon’s Maze

How many times will Jason have to tell the same story before Corbin’s mic starts working? What did people in Oklahoma thinks was happening during this weekend’s earthquake? Marcel’s been cheating on Brainstorm Brewery- but which podcast made him stray? How hard do you cringe during the uncomfortable silence after Ryan gets done talking? Find out all this, plus a host of new European idiomatic expressions, a tirade, and the kind of tangents that have made this podcast legendary around the world on this week’s episode of Brainstorm Brewery which will have you saying “I can’t wait for Episode 50 next week” if you’re the kind of person who talks to yourself. Weirdo.

  • Someone listened to last week’s episode!
  • Spoiler season is upon us, and it seems like the gang can’t even get through their picks of the week without spoiling a few cards. That’s what I call value!
  • Who’s behind the recent price increases in Legacy and is it good or bad for the game? The cast weighs in, and they may not be ready to declare Legacy dead on arrival just yet.
  • Spoiler Season is in full swing and all sorts of different cards get mentioned. What should we look for in past cards to compare new ones to? Is there financial opportunity in spoiled cards besides picking up those specific cards? How can you be ahead of the next card to spike? Find out the answer to all these questions when the gang digs deep into the spoiler.
  • What would you like to hear about in next week’s spoiler episode? A return of “bulk or not bulk?” Values 1-5 assigned to the financial potential of a card like playability reviews do? Have your own idea? Submit them to [email protected] before Monday to make sure this spoiler season is your most profitable yet!
  • The gang decides to weigh in on the YMTC with four black global enchantments that showcase the design talent of each cast member. Vote for your favorite by sending an email to the address above.
  • The cast, predictably, goes a little long. “What’s it Worth?” gets the axe this week, but when you hear what replaced it, you honestly might not care.

Brainstorm Brewery #48 – Shut Up, Corbin

Who’s not excited about the new planeswalker and who’s not excited about the new mechanic? Your guess just may be wrong this time. Is Dragon’s Maze shaping up to be an exciting set or will it continue a trend of lackluster third sets in decent blocks? Find out all this plus get some top notch analysis (and some of the other notches are represented, too) in the first of many Dragon’s mazing (really?) episodes of your favorite MTG finance podcast, Brainstorm Brewery.

  • Barely able to make it through the intro, there are spoilers right out of the gate. A new planeswalker is spoiled and the gang can’t seem to agree on whether it will find a home in standard. Is Ral Zarek the lynchpin in RUG or Grixis going forward, or is it just another Gideon?
  • Pick of the week is all about another spoiled card, this time a split card that spoils a new mechanic and promises a fairer version of a banned card. With several cards spiked already, what’s the correct pickup?
  • Per listener request, the gang discusses how deep they go on their speculation and mentions the specific techniques they use in different situations. If you’ve ever wondered about how and when the finance pros speculate, you won’t want to miss this episode.
  • Spoiler Season is ready to begin as the remainder of the cards we know so far as discussed at length. Someone on the cast will be happy as their favorite creature type gets another guild leader. Like you can’t guess.
  • The spoiler segment runs a bit long and the segue to “What’s it Worth?” is as smooth as ever. Marcel tries to stump the gang with an unconventional pick and Jason manages to be off by 50% on something this week.
  • I heard to outro music but there’s still some room on the progress bar. Weird.

Brainstorm Brewery #47 – Marcel’s Mailbag

Will the gang be able to carry on without Marcel? Who nearly charges headlong into oblivion, threatening to cut the cast short before a crucial segment is completed? Why does Jason’s mic sound like garbage (no, really, we want to know! He paid a lot for it!) Which cast member steps up to replace Marcel, asking a tricky MODO question that stumps the rest of the crew? Find out the answer to all this and more on a special, no-holds-barred listener mail edition of your favorite podcast. Join us for another stupefying episode of Brainstorm Brewery.

  • It’s a listener mailbag extravaganza as the cast is heavily influenced by e-mails from faithful listeners.
  • How will the gang handle an attempt at a seamless segue from listener mail to “Pick of the week” without the dulcet tones of Marcel to keep the gang on task? Listen up to find out if they managed.
  • Corbin tries to piggyback a listener pick for this week’s pick of the week, and when he’s “no sir’d” he has to pick again. That’s what we call “value” in this game! Twice the picks for the price of one!
  • The new block has been revealed to be a Grecco-Roman-themed block with the first set called “Theros”. The gang speculates heavily but inquiring minds just want to know- Will there be Merfolk?
  • Dragon’s Maze spoiler season is nearly upon us, and the gang gets us started with information we know from PAX East to whet everyone?s appetite.
  • ?!?!?!? What’s it Worth? Almost doesn’t happen, but Jason heroically saves the day and keeps the gang on track. What would this cast be without everyone’s favorite segment

Brainstorm Brewery #46 – Scotty Mac Attack

So who is this Scotty fella anyway? Whose internet cuts out right at the end, stranding him from the rest of the cast (the answer may surprise you). Will Corbin ever learn it’s a bad idea to write down his “pick of the week” pick in the show notes where everyone can see them? What card do we want in foil, altered and sent to Ryan to troll him? When will someone other than Marcel learn MTGO finance? Find out the answer to these burning questions, and more, on a mactastic episode of Brainstorm Brewery.

  • The usual gang of wannabes is joined by podcasting royalty- straight from the “Eh Team” it’s Mr. Scotty Mac!
  • Tangents and asides rule the day as the gang gets sidetracked early and often, talking about their favorite liquid refreshment
  • Scotty Mac is the go-to authority on the Modern format, so what does he see as the future of prices in modern? Will he make our path clear to us or will he pose a question to the gang that they were hoping to ask him?
  • Pick of the week takes longer than always- and when it does you know it’s going over the standard “one pick a piece”. In this business, that’s what we call “value”
  • Modern Masters will be reprinting some key cards. What should we dump because it?s at risk of reprint? The gang speculates, but intelligently. They don’t “guess”- that would be absurd.
  • Scotty Mac joins in on the fun when the gang plays “What’s it worth?” and everyone loses all semblance of order.

It’s Episode 45 of everyone’s favorite MTG Financial podcast, Brainstorm Brewery.

  • It’s a mailbag-tastic episode as the gang reads listener mail and talks more Finance 101 as well as addressing some concerns about potential market saturation.
  • How do you deal with someone who’s just trying to get value? Everyone has advice on what to do in a situation that’s becoming more and more common at major events. Is trading dead for good? You decide.
  • Pick of the week is all about Modern and how it’s going to affect prices in the near and long term.
  • How will the addition of a fourth PT and PTQ Season affect prices? Rumor has it that we could see a lot more core set limited than before and the gang has some ideas about what this could do to prices. You won’t want to miss this brainstorming session.
  • What’s it worth is raucous as always and this week the gang picks a few cards that may surprise you and leads to some more tips about potential cards to scoop.

Brainstorm Brewery #43 – Ravnica in the Rough

What other than magic cards seems like a solid investment right now, spawning its own brand new finance hashtag on twitter? Is this the last episode for one of the gang? Who’s responsible for the “Shambleshark” account? Jason has a $50 bounty out for every copy of a specific card all you listeners can ship him, but what is it? • Fully acclimated to being a part of the Gathering Magic team, the gang brings it in an episode that?s all about long term holds and pickups.
  • It wouldn’t be called “Brainstorm Brewery” if the gang didn’t enjoy a bit of liquid refreshment now and again. But what’s everyone drinking? Listen up while they start with a segment Jason’s calling “What’s everyone drinking?, a name we hope he works on.
  • Is RTR stuff just a little too good right now? The guys examine some of the bargain basement prices of RTR cards that can’t possibly stay this cheap forever. Listen as “What’s it Worth?” segues seamlessly into an in-depth discussion about RTR cards they think everyone should target.
  • A new dual deck is seeing print and it could affect the market prices of a few key cards. Should we bust them for singles or hold them sealed? Should we stay away? Find out what they think.
  • “What’s it Worth?” devolves into a longer game than usual. Should they use “The Price is Right” rules or let someone who called a $7.99 card as $8 have it? Who keeps getting ignored when it’s time to say who?s closest? Are any of these cards good pickups? You’ll have to listen to find out.
